With the number of new songs released every year, it can be hard to figure out which ones are worth listening to and which ones aren’t. However, there’s one genre that always seems to stand out above the rest, and it has been for years: OPM (Original Pinoy Music). While this music tends to get mixed up with other genres of music from around the world, its roots can be traced back to traditional Filipino culture, making each song special in its own way. OPM songs are about real life
OPM songs are, as the acronym stands for, Original Pilipino Music. The term refers to a specific genre of Filipino music that was popularized in the 1980s and 1990s.

include Eraserheads, APO Hiking Society, Ebe Dancel, Parokya ni Edgar, Rivermaya and Sharon Cuneta. One reason why many people find OPM songs so special is because they're able to relate to them. These aren't just pop hits written about perfect people living ideal lives - these are authentic representations of how real people live their lives and deal with the ups and downs that come with it. That's what makes OPM music so important: it helps us remember who we are and where we come from. It helps us understand ourselves better and embrace our identity. It helps us celebrate the things that make up our culture. And, ultimately, it offers an escape into aworld away from everything else.
They're relatable

Whenever I listen to an OPM song, I can't help but feel nostalgia for my childhood, the feelings of love and heartbreak in high school or even just a general sense of sadness about life in general. It's like these songs speak to me on a personal level and I can't help but smile when I hear them. They're also catchy AF: One thing I absolutely adore about OPM songs is how catchy they are. After listening to it for a few times, you'll find yourself humming the tune to yourself all day long! but this makes them infinitely more powerful because you know that someone wrote every word with their soul pouring out onto the paper. These lyrics may not be easy to understand at first, but after some time and multiple listens, everything starts making sense. You start understanding what the person was trying to say through those four minutes of music and suddenly something as simple as a guitar riff becomes an emotional battle cry against depression or anxiety
OPM songs have great melodies
If you've ever heard a song and had to sing it to yourself because you couldn't get it out of your head, that would be its melody. In many ways, melodies are like earworms; they get into your head and won't leave! One of the things that make OPM songs so special is their melodies. They're catchy, which is great for getting stuck in your head and remembering them later on. It's also what keeps listeners coming back for more - each time finding something new in the song. To those who don't know much about music or haven't spent too much time listening to Filipino music before, it may not seem like there's much variety among OPMs. But after digging deeper, one will find that there is always a difference in the vocalists' range and tone quality, as well as the instruments used.
The lyrics are easy to remember
Most of the lyrics from OPM songs are easy to remember and relate to everyday life. Plus, they can be easily translated into other languages. For example, the song If You're Happy and You Know It has lyrics in both English and Spanish. They have a good beat that makes you want to move: One aspect that makes these types of music so special is the fact that they have a good beat which makes you want to dance or move along with it! The rhythm of the words entices people to sing along. With such catchy lyrics and melodies, what's not to love about OPM? The answer to this question is simple: absolutely nothing.
OPM songs make you feel good
I would argue that the reason they are so popular is because they make you feel good. When you are feeling down and out, these songs can lift your mood and give you a little hope for the future. In fact, many people use them as their go-to song when they need to get back on their feet. With uplifting lyrics like Keep on walking, or One day at a time, or Smile again even if things are rough at first, there is always hope in the end. We may be going through hard times now but we will find our way out of the tunnel eventually. There are more optimistic tracks like Makapiling Kang Muli where we believe that the best days are still ahead of us. Sometimes all we need is a bit of encouragement from someone who has been through similar struggles before, which is why this track resonates with so many listeners.
